ICDA Council welcomes new member

We are pleased to welcome Pankaj Kumar Satija, representing Tata Steel to the ICDA Council. He replaces MC Thomas who has served the ICDA council for almost five years.

Mr Satija is Managing Director for Tata Steel Mining Limited and has more than 27 years of experience in Strategic Planning, Project Management, Mine Planning, Mining Operations, Training, Production and Maintenance.

Pankaj Kumar Satija is passionate about sustainability, process improvement and corporate social responsibility. He has been in the task force for the Sustainable Development Framework for the Indian Mining Industry constituted by Ministry of Mines. Under his leadership, Sukinda chromite mine of Tata Steel became the first mine in the country where the pilot launch of the Sustainable Development Framework was done in January 2016.

A Centre for Abilities’ (2nd in India) was also started at Noamundi under his leadership which will support people with disabilities to achieve their potential by offering various skill development courses.

“Tejsawini”, a programme to upskill the female workforce to enable them to work within core production processes as HEMM and crane operators, was initiated under his leadership at raw material locations.

Pankaj Kumar Satija is a graduate mining engineer from IIT(ISM), Dhanbad with PGDBM from XLRI. He has blended his expertise in mining operations with a focus on Safety, Health and Environment.

He is a PMP certified professional and has undergone Indo German Manager Programme at Germany, Global Advance Management Programme at Beijing and Tata Group Executive Leadership Development Program at UK. He is also a LEAD Fellow of cohort 19. He is a certified coach from Erickson Coaching International.

Mr Satija has received numerous awards during his career in recognition of his achievements.
