We are pleased to welcome Kleantha Pillay, representing Sibanye Stillwater, to the ICDA Council.

She replaces David Kovarsky who is a long-standing member of ICDA and contributed to the activities of the association for almost 20 years.

Kleantha Pillay joined Sibanye-Stillwater as VP Marketing in May 2019 and was responsible for building the PGM Sales and Marketing function in SA, facilitating the company’s entry into the market.

Prior to this, she was the Head of Market Development at Anglo American, responsible for identifying, managing and commercialising opportunities to develop global markets for platinum group metals (PGMs). In this role she established a US$100m corporate venture capital fund and implemented the world’s first mini-grid fuel cell power system for rural electrification in South Africa.

Kleantha also spent 4 years at Sasol Limited, where she was Assistant to the Chief Executive. Her portfolio included work across strategy, communications, investor relations and special projects. Before this, her management consulting career with McKinsey & Company consisted of projects undertaken in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and the UK. She worked primarily in the basic materials and beverages industries.

Kleantha holds a Masters’ degree in chemical engineering, as well as an MBA from Cambridge University.
